Is the concept of work-life balance for doctors an oxymoron?
When I worked in hospital many years ago I remember trying to get through everything that needed to be done , usually while feeling the effects of lack of sleept and hoping there would be a chance to get a quick bite of food before the next patient was admitted. There was no discussion about self care or taking time away from medicine to recharge. We were expected to keep going without complaints.
Thank goodness more doctors know that self-care is vital. Taking time to do something away from medicine is so important.
My book ‘Work Life balance for Doctors’ offers some simple pointers to enable you yo achieve more balance in yout life.
